May mga pagmamahal na hindi kulang—

maaga lang.

O huli.

“Gaano mo tinatago ‘to?” Rune asked quietly.

Aldric didn’t answer.

Rune leaned back, eyes sharp but exhausted.

“Sagot.”

Aldric swallowed. “Two weeks.”

“Dalawang linggo?”

His voice cracked.

“Dalawang linggo mong alam… na aalis ka ng bansa?

Dalawang linggo mong alam na iiwan mo ko?

At wala man lang akong narinig, Aldric?”

Aldric shook his head. “Hindi ko ‘to tinanggap pa—”

“Pero hindi mo sinabi.” Rune snapped.

“Yun ang problema.”

Aldric approached him slowly, like he was walking toward a wounded animal.

“Rune…

I didn’t want you to freak out.”

Rune laughed—nakakatawa kung hindi masakit.

“Freak out? Aldric, I’m not a child.

I deserved to know.”

“You do,” Aldric admitted.

“But I was scared.”

“Ng ano? Na magagalit ako?”

Rune’s voice rose.

“O na baka sabihin kong wag kang umalis?

O na baka piliin mo—”

He cut himself before the last line could escape him.

Aldric knew exactly what Rune didn’t finish saying.

“Rune…”

Aldric whispered, voice heavy, “I was scared you’d make me stay.”

Rune froze.

There it was.

Isang pangungusap na parang kutsilyo.

Aldric continued, tone trembling.

“I knew… if sinabi ko sa’yo ‘to kaagad…

baka sabihin mo na ‘wag muna.

Na later na lang.

Na kaya pa natin.

Na pwede pang ipagpaliban.”

Rune clenched his jaw.

“And you didn’t want me to say that?”

Aldric shut his eyes. “I didn’t want to choose between my dream… and you.”

Rune stood up so fast the chair almost fell.

“So ako pala ang magiging sagabal?”

Rune snapped.

“Ako pala ang pipigil sa pangarap mo?

Ako pala yung hadlang?”

“Hindi!” Aldric raised his voice for the first time.

“HINDI ka hadlang.

Ikaw ang dahilan bakit gusto kong maging better.”

Rune stared at him, eyes glistening.

“Then why did you hide it from me?”

Aldric’s throat tightened.

“Because love was never the problem.

It was the timing.”

Rune laughed bitterly.

“Oh wow.

So love isn’t the problem, timing ang kalaban.

And guess what, Aldric?

Ako ang tatamaan.”

Aldric stepped closer, but Rune stepped back.

“Rune—”

“No,” Rune said, voice cracking.

“Hindi ako lalapit sayo ngayon.”

Aldric’s chest tightened painfully.

“Rune, please…”

Rune looked at him with a mixture of hurt, longing, and betrayal.

“I trusted you,” Rune whispered.

“I trusted you with everything.

Aldric’s tears filled his eyes.

“I didn’t want to hurt you.”

Rune shook his head, lips trembling.

“You didn’t hurt me because you’re leaving.

Nasaktan ako because you didn’t think I deserved the truth.”

Aldric felt that like a bullet.

Rune walked toward him—slow, trembling, angry, aching.

“Aldric…

mahal kita.”

Aldric staggered backward, tears escaping.

“I love you too.”

“Pero hindi tayo pantay kung ikaw lang ang may hawak ng direksyon.

Hindi relationship kung solo flight ka.”

Aldric’s voice broke.

“I know…”

Rune wiped his cheek aggressively.

“Bakit mo ako inuna sa lahat…

pero sa bagay na ‘to, huli ako?”

Aldric froze.

“I was scared…” he whispered.

“…that the right dream came at the wrong time.”

Rune stared at him.

“And I was scared…” he whispered back,

“…that the right love came with the wrong person.”

Aldric flinched, visibly devastated.

Rune shut his eyes.

“I said I was scared.

Hindi ko sinabing totoo.”

Then—

He took a breath.

A long, heavy one.

“Aldric… I need time.”

“No,” Aldric said instantly, stepping forward.

“Rune, please. Wag mong sabihin yan.

Kaya natin ‘to.

Kaya natin ayusin.

Wag kang lalayo.”

Rune stepped back again.

“I’m not leaving because I don’t love you.”

His voice trembled.

“I’m leaving because you didn’t trust me with the parts of your life that matter.”

Aldric’s voice cracked, desperate.

“Rune, I’ll tell you everything.

Right now.

The offer, the contract, the plan, the dates—lahat.

Please.

Please stay.”

Rune closed his eyes and whispered—

“Aldric…

hindi lahat ng problema nasosolusyunan ng pagmamadali.”

Aldric froze, breath trembling.

“What are you saying?”

Rune looked at him, eyes tired and broken.

“I’m saying…

I need space.”

“No…”

Aldric whispered, heart shattering.

“Rune, please don’t do this.

Hindi ko kaya.”

Rune swallowed hard.

“Hindi rin ako.”

Aldric lost his voice.

Rune stepped away.

“Aldric,” Rune whispered,

“Love was never our problem.

But tonight… timing is.”

Aldric’s tears finally fell.

“Rune—please—don’t leave.

Don’t walk out.

We can fix this.

I’ll change.

I’ll stay.

Just… don’t go.”

Rune looked at him—

and that look alone broke Aldric more than any word.

“I’m coming back…” Rune said softly.

“…pero hindi ngayong gabi.”

Then he opened the door.

Aldric lunged forward.

“Rune—PLEASE—”

But Rune stepped outside.

And with a single, devastatingly soft whisper, he said—

“Aldric… mahal kita.

The door closed.

And Aldric collapsed to the floor—

a man in love,

but losing to the one enemy he never expected:

Timing.

At ngayong gabi,

ganoon si Aldric.

Pagkasara ng pinto,

tumigil ang lahat.

Ang hangin.

Ang ingay ng lungsod.

Ang tibok ng puso niya—

naging mabagal, mabigat, parang gumugulong sa putik.

“Rune…”

His voice cracked, barely a sound.

“Please… wag ganito.”

Pero wala na.

Rune was gone.

Thirty-five minutes.

Yun ang kaya niyang tiisin bago umurong ang pagpapanggap.

Tumayo si Aldric,

hinila ang sarili palabas ng apartment,

at tumakbo.

Hindi siya nag-isip kung saan pupunta.

Hindi niya inisip kung ano’ng sasabihin.

Hindi niya inisip kung paano.

Ang nasa utak lang niya:

Hanapin mo siya.

Kausapin mo siya.

Ayusin mo siya, kahit durog ka.

Rune’s apartment?

Wala siya doon.

The old café?

Sarado.

“Callum!” Aldric shouted. “Si Rune? Nasan siya?”

Callum stopped, startled.

“Damn, Aldric—are you okay? Para kang—”

“Callum,” Aldric begged,

“please.

Callum swallowed, expression softening.

“Nasa rooftop siya.

Yung sa community center.”

Aldric didn’t waste another second.

“Rune…” Aldric whispered,

voice fragile,

voice unfamiliar,

Rune looked up—

eyes swollen,

face pale,

lips trembling.

“Aldric…” Rune breathed.

“What are you doing here?”

Aldric stepped closer—

slowly,

carefully,

parang bawat hakbang ay pagsuko sa katotohanan.

“I’m here,” Aldric said softly,

“kasi hindi ko kayang magpanggap na okay lang ako nang wala ka.”

Rune swallowed.

“Hindi ko sinabi na mawawala ako.”

His voice shook.

“I just said… I need time.”

Aldric nodded.

“But I needed you to know…

na hindi ako aalis sa laban natin.”

His voice cracked.

“I’m scared, Rune.

I’m terrified.

Rune shut his eyes, tears falling again.

“Aldric… bakit mo pa ko hinabol?

Alam mo namang kailangan ko ng space.”

Aldric inhaled deeply.

His voice was steady for once.

“I didn’t come here to fix you.

Or force you.

Or rush you.”

He stepped closer, until one foot away na lang sila.

“I came here to tell you the truth…

Rune blinked.

“Then what was that?

Yung hindi mo pagsabi?

Yung dalawang linggo—”

Aldric cut him gently.

“Hindi ko sinabi kasi…

I thought loving you meant protecting you from the pain.”

Rune shook his head.

“That’s not love, Aldric.

That’s fear.”

Aldric nodded.

“I know.

At ngayon…

hindi na ko takot sa sakit.

Takot ako sa tahimik.”

Rune’s breath hitched.

Aldric’s voice softened even more.

“Rune…

tumingin ka sa’kin.”

Rune did.

And there—

in Aldric’s eyes—

he saw something new.

Not pride.

Not suppression.

Not control.

But vulnerability.

Honesty.

A kind of surrender.

“I love you,” Aldric said,

plain, raw, unpolished.

“And for the first time…

I’m saying it without expecting you to stay.”

Rune’s heart cracked.

Aldric continued.

“If you need time,

I’ll wait.

If you need distance,

I’ll respect it.

If you need to breathe,

I’ll give you air.

Pero Rune…”

His voice trembled.

“…wag mong isipin kahit sandali na hindi kita pinipili.”

Rune wiped his cheeks with trembling fingers.

“Aldric… bakit ang tagal mong sinabi ‘to?”

Aldric gave a weak, broken smile.

“Because I never learned how to love without building walls.

But you…

you’re the only person worth breaking them for.”

Rune clenched his jaw, tears fresh.

“You hurt me.”

“I know.”

“You lied.”

“I know.”

“You made me feel small.”

Aldric’s face crumpled.

“I know…

and I’m sorry.

Not because you’re angry…

but because you’re right.”

That stunned Rune.

Aldric stepped closer.

“Rune…

Rune stared, breath uneven.

“And if timing is the enemy…”

Aldric whispered,

“…then let me fight time.

Rune shook his head weakly.

“Aldric…

what if I let you go tonight?

What if this is where timing wins?”

Aldric’s voice broke.

“Then I’ll wait for the next right timing.

And the next.

And every timing after.

Hanggang manalo tayo.”

Rune’s lips parted.

His shoulders shook.

And then—

in the softest whisper—

“Hindi ko kayang mawala ka.”

Aldric closed the distance between them,

hands cupping Rune’s face gently,

softly,

carefully.

“You won’t.”

Rune trembled.

“Aldric…”

“Yes?”

“I’m scared too.”

Aldric pressed his forehead against Rune’s.

“Then let’s be scared together.”

Rune exhaled shakily,

his voice barely a breath.

“Bring me home.”

Aldric’s tears fell in relief.

“I will.”

He stood, offered his hand—

and Rune took it,

slow, hesitant,

but real.

They walked down the rooftop stairs,

fingers intertwined,

hearts bruised

but beating for each other.

When they reached the street, Rune tugged Aldric’s sleeve.

“Aldric…”

“Yes?”

“If love wasn’t the problem…

how do we fix the timing?”

Aldric smiled through tears.

“We create our own timing.

One day at a time.

One choice at a time.

One heartbeat at a time.”

Rune nodded.

And together—

they walked home,

not perfectly,

but honestly.

Tonight,

timing lost.

And love finally won.

THE END.
